Thomas Madigage changed my life,’ – says emotional Kwanele Kopo as he remembers his mentor
In the 127th episode of the Arena Sports Show, Mahlatse Mphahlele is joined by respected coach Kwanele Kopo to reflect on his career from youth structures to senior and national teams.
Kopo, who is out of a job after he was released by University of Pretoria (Tuks) last season, worked as assistant coach to the late Thomas Madigage and Pitso Mosimane in the early 2000s.
He coached players like Kaitano Tembo, Ricardo Katza, Themba Mnguni, Phill Evans, Peter Khoabane Denis Masina, Emmahuel Zulu, the late Abram Raselemane and Patrick Mayo as they established the club as one of the most feared in the league.
He got emotional when he spoke about the immense influence that Magigage had on him by teaching him about humility and the importance of being able to sacrifice for others.
He also spoke about how many players from the youth structures that he worked with but no one left a mark on him like the outrageously talented Masibusane Zongo who never reached his potential.
