The Long Walk | ‘I fell asleep drunk and the fire took everything’
A neighbour warned him about the fire. He fell asleep drunk anyway. He woke up to flames.
Mthinteni Sibeko is disabled and living in an invaded flat at Shalimar Ridge. He got his RDP house after years of waiting, but chose to rent it out to foreign nationals just to make ends meet. He came back to Shalimar Ridge because his neighbours were like family.
His disability grant was cut after he failed to renew it. Re-registering is a struggle because of his leg. He hopes to have it back by December.
He has voted since 1998. He says as a responsible citizen, you have to cooperate with the community.
