Thai police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at Cambodian civilians in a disputed border area on September 17, 2025. At least 23 Cambodians were injured in the incident, according to Cambodian authorities, while Thailand’s military said an unspecified number of Thai officials also sustained injuries. Bangkok accused some protesters of dismantling defensive barriers and throwing stones at Thai officials near a border village. The incident was the most significant escalation between the two countries since they agreed to a ceasefire ending a deadly five-day conflict in July.
