At least 21 people were killed after a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10, causing buildings to collapse and triggering major rescue efforts. Pereira reported 18 deaths, while Manizales recorded two fatalities and damage to more than 32 buildings; one person was also killed in Quibdo.
