Simonyan’s chilling call to exterminate Ukrainians | Break the Fake

Russian television has found the perfect scapegoat for the humanitarian catastrophe in occupied Oleshky: Ukraine, of course.

Margarita Simonyan is now using the suffering of civilians to fuel anti-Ukraine propaganda, comparing the situation to the WWII siege of Leningrad while openly calling for the extermination of Ukrainians. Because apparently, nothing says concern for civilians quite like demanding even more violence.

But there’s one inconvenient detail her narrative leaves out: Oleshky has been under Russian occupation since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Russian forces have devastated the town, blocked escape routes, mined roads, and cut off food and medical supplies for months. Yet on Russian television, the occupying army somehow disappears from the story, and Ukraine becomes the villain.

Join Benjamin Lee in a new episode of Break The Fake to see how the Kremlin turns civilian suffering into another weapon of disinformation.
