Sberbank hit, Yandex down, diesel running out | Break the Fake
Ukrainian long-range drones reportedly struck a Sberbank data center in Russia’s Saratov region, following an earlier attack on Yandex’s IT infrastructure. The resulting disruptions affected everyday services across Russia, from taxi bookings and food deliveries to payment systems.
And then came an unexpected twist: Yandex’s AI assistant revealed the locations of data centers the company had reportedly tried to keep hidden. So much for artificial intelligence protecting national secrets.
Meanwhile, drivers in Krasnodar are struggling with diesel shortages, while some Russians are appealing to the U.S. Congress to pressure Putin into supplying fuel to Russia’s own regions.
Join Benjamin Lee in a new episode of Break the Fake to see how Ukraine’s drone campaign is putting pressure on Russia’s digital infrastructure, why fuel shortages are fueling public frustration, and what these problems reveal about the gap between the Kremlin’s superpower ambitions and everyday life in Russia.
