SANEF to challenge “restrictive” court reporting
The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) says it will be approaching the Magistrates Commission in November to discuss what it calls restrictive reporting conditions for journalists in courts.
SANEF says some court rulings are rewriting the rules on open justice, effectively deciding who deserves public scrutiny and who should be protected, undermining media freedom.
This comes as the country observes National Press Freedom Day, also known as Black Wednesday.
