* Investigating Directorate Against Corruption head Advocate Andrea Johnson found herself up against the wall as she struggled to answer the Madlanga Commission’s inquiry into decisions made regarding investigations into the appointment of Brigadier Dineo Mokwele in Crime Intelligence.

* The Nkabinde Enquiry has found South Gauteng DPP Advocate Andrew Chauke fit to hold office, after he was cleared of all charges leveled against him by former NPA Head Shamila Batohi. The inquiry found that there was no credible evidence upon which it could conclude that Chauke had acted unlawfully in the performance of his duties.

* Annual headline Consumer Price Inflation accelerated to 5% in June. The June reading marks the highest inflation rate recorded since June 2024. Stats SA attributes the sharp rise primarily to elevated fuel prices, which continue to drive up overall transport costs.

* The defence in the case of British-Zimbabwean national Ndodana Tshuma, who is accused of the murder of his wife and two daughters, have received the warrant of arrest issued for him by authorities in the United Kingdom. Tshuma faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in South Africa, and a triple murder charge in Britain.

* Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe has made the call for women’s football on the African continent to be recognised and allocated resources befitting its importance. Motsepe shared this view ahead of the 2026 WAFCON tournament set to kick off in Rabat, Morocco on Sunday.
