SABC at 90: A tourney through triumphs and struggles

In 1936, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) was born in Johannesburg, with its first radio broadcast echoed across the nation a year later.

What began as a single signal would become both a powerful instrument of the apartheid state and, decades later, a platform for democracy, truth and national conversation.

For 90 years, the SABC has witnessed South Africa’s greatest triumphs and deepest struggles.

This is the story of a broadcaster that evolved from Radio to TV and now Digital broadcasting to South Africa, the African continent and the World with 19 radio stations, 5 TV channels and SABC Plus with millions of subscribers.
