An explosive-laden drone found at Leipzig-Halle Airport, a major NATO logistics hub, has raised fresh concerns about Germany’s vulnerability to hybrid attacks. German authorities say the sophisticated device may point to a highly organized operation, with everything pointing to Russia as the culprit.
“Germany is one of the biggest targets for Russia’s subthreshold or hybrid warfare. Only this year, Germany faced 166 attacks of this kind,” Elena Davlikanova, Lecturer in Political Sociology at University College London, told TVP World, adding that many other European countries were similarly targeted. “Russia has crossed all the red lines when it comes to breaching European security, testing what are the weaknesses in European security. And Russia has gone too far.”
She said that “Europe needs to learn that Russia has finally escalated and recognize that Russia is at war with Europe,” calling for the development of a “joint, very clear strategy” to handle Russia and maintain support for Ukraine, “which remains the main frontier currently holding major Russian forces.”
