‘Rewarmed’ Australian national defence strategy under scrutiny

Strategic Analysis Australian Director Michael Shoebridge criticises the Albanese government’s latest investment in autonomous defence systems and warned it looked “eerily like the one they released two years ago”.

“The government is going to release their slightly rewarmed national defence strategy that’s going to look eerily like the one they released two years ago,” Mr Shoebridge told Sky News host Steve Price.

“Today, Australia celebrated forming one small naval unit that’s focused on autonomous systems, and this strategy they’re releasing tomorrow will say they’re putting an extra five billion dollars into autonomous systems over ten years.

“That’s less than one per cent of our defence budget, and we expect to be taken seriously.”
