Lithium-ion batteries power many electronic devices, from smartphones and laptops to cordless electronic tools and other rechargeable gadgets.
However, once they reach the end of life, experts and manufacturers warn that disposing of the batteries or any electronic devices with household waste that end up on landfill sites, poses a serious environmental hazard.
This may lead to fire risks and soil contamination.
The challenge is that some consumers say they are unsure or uninformed about the proper ways of disposing of electronic waste, such as lithium-ion batteries.
