The rising demand for rare earth materials is fuelling a mining boom in Myanmar and Laos. Toxins from these sites are flowing into Mekong River’s tributaries in Thailand, threatening public health and the agricultural economy which the nation relies on. The Thai government’s response has been constrained by limited expertise, access to information and funds.
