Russia’s MC-21 passenger jet takes flight, boosting Moscow’s Boeing-Airbus challenge despite Western sanctions. The first serial production-standard Yakovlev MC-21-310 successfully completed its maiden test flight using Russian-built PD-14 engines after Western components became unavailable following the Ukraine conflict. The aircraft flew for one hour and twenty-three minutes, marking a major milestone toward certification and commercial service. Russia hopes the MC-21 will rival Boeing’s 737 MAX and Airbus’ A320neo families while reducing reliance on imported technology.
