Putin calls Elon Musk a ‘genius’ during summit with African leaders
Russia is beginning to roll out its own version of Musk’s Starlink satellite internet system.
Russian Minister for Digital Development Maksut Shadayev said Musk had more than 5,000 low-orbit satellites operating — although independent tracking site Orbital Radar says the actual number is closer to 10,000.
Ukraine has used Starlink, developed by Musk’s SpaceX, throughout its war with Russia for drone operations and communications.
However, Kyiv complained earlier this month that speed restrictions have made it challenging to intercept Russian attack drones.
Musk later acknowledged Starlink had restricted Ukraine’s service and accused it of violating its terms of service by using it for military activity.
