Nearly a week waiting for help, that’s what some residents at Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha are reporting. This, as Public Protector Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka is at the facility. She is assessing conditions and hearing directly from patients and staff.
Her office’s 2021 investigation uncovered staff shortages, overcrowding and poor maintenance. The Eastern Cape Health Department was ordered to address these problems. Today, she is checking on what has changed.
