Power outage and crippling tourism: Cubans back at banging pots to break their silence


Residents of Havana’s Diez de Octubre municipality in Cuba banged pots on July 24 night in a protest after a call for demonstration spread on social media earlier in the day, demanding restoration of electricity and water services amid Cuba’s deepening infrastructure crisis.

The nation’s all-important tourism sector has also taken a huge hit as Spanish hotel group Melia said it had ceased operations of all its 34 hotels in the country.
