‘Ponzi scheme’: Federal government accused of cashing in on mass migration boom
Microbusiness Chief Economist Leith Van Onselen accuses the federal government of benefiting from migration-driven tax revenue while states carry the infrastructure burden.
“There is a silver lining, of course, for the federal government. The federal government collects 80 per cent of tax revenues,” Mr Onselen told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“More immigration means more personal income taxes.
“Those costs are then just deferred onto the states that need to build the infrastructure and supply all the services.
“It’s a bit of a Ponzi scheme run by the federal government, unfortunately.”
