The European Union is set to release more than €16.4 billion in previously frozen funds to Hungary. Following talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says the money will be unlocked once Hungary implements a series of agreed-upon reforms.

A major diplomatic row is brewing between Warsaw and Kyiv after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored a fighters’ unit naming it after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, the World War II nationalist group blamed for the massacre of some 100,000 Poles in Volhynia. In response, Polish President Karol Nawrocki is reportedly preparing to strip Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle, Poland’s highest state decoration.

Romania is not facing a direct attack but rather suffering the effects of a conflict taking place right across its border – that’s according to the deputy commander of Romania’s Joint Forces Command following a Russian drone striking a Romanian residential block in the southeastern city of Galați. Emergency crews have been responding to the explosion that wounded two people. The attack prompted strong responses from NATO and EU officials.
