The spotlight once again fell on the Phala Phala saga in Parliament today, as IPID and SAPS faced tough questioning from MPs over the investigation into the 2020 burglary at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Limpopo game farm. Lawmakers demanded answers on the whereabouts of the now-infamous couch believed to have concealed hundreds of thousands of US dollars, while also questioning why IPID and SAPS reached differing conclusions on the conduct of Presidential Protection Unit head Major General Wally Rhoode. But after hours of what MPs described as evasive and incomplete responses during the virtual meeting, frustrated MPs resolved to summon both institutions back to Parliament for a physical appearance.
