Opera House protest under scrutiny at antisemitism Royal Commission
Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin said evidence given to the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion ignored the lasting impact the October 9, 2023 rally had on Australia’s Jewish community.
The criticism follows Acting Deputy Commissioner Peter McKenna’s evidence that the protest had been reduced to “seconds or minutes on a news grab” and had been made to appear “more significant” than it was.
Mr Ryvchin said that the assessment failed to recognise what unfolded outside the Opera House and the consequences that followed.
