NUMSA approaches court over Ekapa Mine rescue
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa is pushing for operations to resume at the Ekapa Minerals Diamond Mine in the Northern Cape.
Earlier, the union approached the Northern Cape High Court, which dismissed Ekapa Minerals’ application to place the mine under provisional liquidation.
It ruled instead that the mine be placed under business rescue.
In February, five workers died in a mud rush at the mine.
Since then, over one-thousand workers have been dismissed, and have not been paid what is owed to them.
