He used to be a patron and idol of the European far-right. His political endorsement could translate into a few percentage points of support – or even an outright victory – in elections. However, just a few months later, President Donald Trump became a toxic liability for many European politicians – even a kiss of political death, as seen in the recent Hungarian elections. Even Europe’s so-called “Trump whisperer” and former close ally, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, has now said “basta”– enough. Is this the final divorce between the American MAGA guru and the far-right across Europe?
