North West gets a new police boss

Lieutenant-General Arthur Peter Adams has been appointed as the Provincial Police Commissioner of the North West.

His appointment was announced by Acting National Commissioner of Police Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane in Mahikeng.

The North West commissioner of police position has been vacant since December 2024 following the retirement of Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena.

The initial recruitment process was halted last year following allegations of political meddling.

Policing unions alleged that while the were more than five candidates who were interviewed for the position in February this year, no successful candidate was appointed for the better part of the year.
