New School Absences Revealed Before Jor’Dynn Duncan’s Death

New details are raising questions about whether warning signs were missed before the death of 7-year-old Jor’Dynn Duncan of Bayport.

A Newsday investigation found that Jor’Dynn missed 18 additional school days and was late another 17 times in the months before her December 2025 death.

Combined with roughly 40 absences during the previous school year, the newly disclosed records raise questions about whether school officials could have identified signs of alleged abuse.

Prosecutors say her caretakers used the absences to conceal abuse. Three women charged in connection with Jor’Dynn’s death have pleaded not guilty.
