‘NETANYAHU HAS FAILED ISRAEL!’: Massive Protests Erupt Against Bibi Over War And Election Anger
Israeli protesters have returned to the streets of Tel Aviv less than two weeks before the October 27 election, demanding accountability from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the Gaza war, the occupation and the security failures surrounding the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack. Demonstrators gathered at Habima Square carrying Israeli flags and anti-war placards. Protester Iris Shmueli said “Netanyahu has failed in his role all along the way,” accusing the prime minister of taking credit for successes while distancing himself from failures. The demonstrations also focused on settler violence and demands for an end to the fighting in Gaza. An October 14 Israel Democracy Institute survey found that establishing a state commission of inquiry into October 7 was among the leading priorities identified by Jewish Israeli respondents, alongside military conscription. For demonstrators, the approaching election is becoming an opportunity to demand answers over both the war and the failures that preceded it.
