MIT’s architecture school moves into a new home at the Metropolitan Storage Warehouse.

More than 250 people came together in the heart of MIT’s campus Tuesday to formally welcome its School of Architecture and Planning to its new home at the Metropolitan Storage Warehouse building.

Dressed in white and carrying bubble machines and plastic-bottles-turned-drums, the crew formed a “living” replica of the Bucentaur — a ceremonial barge that in 1916 ushered MIT from Boston to its current home in Cambridge. The university’s 1916 boat was itself a replica of an even older Venetian vessel.

The move brings several once-disparate departments under a single roof, which campus officials hope will help fuel greater collaboration.
