Middle East | Threat to oil tankers worst since start of Iran war
Experts say the threat to ships carrying oil in the Middle East is at its worst since the Iran war started.
The warning comes after a number of attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, an alternative waterway that some tankers have been using since Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz.
Daily traffic through the Strait of Hormuz—which handled 20% of global oil before the war—has ground to a near-standstill.
The US Central Command maintains a strict blockade on Iranian crude exports, executing a heavy wave of airstrikes against coastal positions. In response, Iranian forces targeted US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump extended a pattern of threatening massive military strikes before pulling back to pursue diplomatic contact.
