Melania Trump brokered ceasefire in Oleshky, city “on the brink of disaster” | Ukraine Brief
The White House on Friday announced a localized ceasefire in Russian-occupied Oleshky, mediated by First Lady Melania Trump. Washington says that the ceasefire, secured with Russian and Ukrainian leadership, will facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries, as well as a planned civilian evacuation. Residents will reportedly be allowed to make their way to either Russia or Ukraine. Both Kyiv and Moscow have now confirmed the ceasefire. A civilian cargo ship sank off Romania’s Black Sea coastline on Friday, after reportedly coming under a Russian drone strike. The Comoros-flagged ship, Khoryv, sent a distress signal Friday morning, roughly 13 nautical miles off the coast of Constanța.
To discuss this and more, Ukraine Brief host Benjamin Lee is joined by Mark Temnycky, Nonresident Fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center.
