‘Mayday… Mayday’: Video Captures Florida Learjet Crash After Terrifying 20,000-Ft-Per-Minute Drop
A dashcam captured the terrifying moment a Learjet plunged from the sky beside a Florida roadway and exploded into a massive fireball, killing all nine people aboard. The aircraft was flying from Austin, Texas, towards the Bahamas when its crew reported turbulence and icing conditions. According to the reported pilot-air traffic control conversation, the Learjet initially began descending at around 10,000 feet per minute before the rate reportedly accelerated to approximately 20,000 feet per minute. The crew also reported an overspeed condition as they struggled to regain control. Then came the chilling final message: “We’re out of time.” Seconds later, the dashcam captured the aircraft hitting beside the road and erupting in flames. US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed all nine aboard were killed. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause.
