Manufacturing activity improves for second consecutive month

Activity in the manufacturing sector has continued to improve. The Absa Purchasing Manager’s index increased by 0.9 points, to 49.6 in October. This is up from a revised 48.7 in September.

This marked a second consecutive month of improvement, with all five components of the headline index increasing.

However, respondents highlighted uncertainty around the upcoming elections, and persistent logistics and infrastructure constraints.
