Mamdani was sworn in as the first Muslim mayor of New York City
Zohran Mamdani has been sworn in as the 112th Mayor of New York City, and the youngest person to be inaugurated in generations.
The 34-year-old has become the city’s first Muslim mayor, taking the oath of office with his hand on a copy of the Koran.
The ceremony was administered by New York Attorney General Letitia James inside a decommissioned subway station with deep historical roots.
