LIVE NEWS: Iran latest, Trump tariffs, NASA Astronaut returns

The United States has gradually expanded the scope of its attacks against Iran over the course of two weeks of punishing airstrikes that increasingly resemble the war’s opening salvos. After a brief ceasefire in June following the signing of an interim deal to end the conflict, a battle for control over the Strait of Hormuz erupted, shattering the truce and pushing the countries back to the precipice of an all-out war across the Middle East.

President Donald Trump is going ahead with new double-digit tariffs on dozens of U.S. trading partners just as the clock ran out Friday on stopgap levies he imposed after a stinging defeat at the Supreme Court. The United States will slap taxes of 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 trading partners accounting for 99% of U.S. imports, charging that they have inadequately enforced bans on goods produced by forced labor.

After 241 days in orbit, astronaut Chris Williams is returning home from his first mission to the International Space Station. Williams, along with cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, will touch down on Earth at 6:25 a.m. EDT (1025 UTC) in their Soyuz spacecraft after undocking from the station earlier on July 26. After landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan, they will fly by helicopter to Karaganda, Kazakhstan.
