Lindsay Clancy verdict: Judge clashes with defense over reasonable doubt instruction
Judge William Sullivan and Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, had a heated exchange Friday over how the jury should be instructed on reasonable doubt.
Reddington urged Sullivan to reinstruct jurors “forcefully,” arguing that the judge’s previous instruction had been too “soft.” Sullivan pushed back, asking, “What do you want me to do, get a brass band?” He later said he would deliver the reasonable doubt instruction with “more pizazz.”
Sullivan also said he would not question the apparent holdout juror further and would remind jurors that they must follow the law as he gives it to them.”
