LGE 2026 | Residents question years of unmet commitments
Bapong residents in the North West province are disillusioned this election season, following unfulfilled promises to rehabilitate their village after illegal artisanal chrome mining left it devastated.
Massive excavations have left deep ditches, damaged properties and some homes at risk of collapsing, raising serious safety concerns.
With unemployment and poverty persisting despite the area’s mineral wealth, residents are questioning whether their plight will finally be addressed, and whether it will influence their vote in the coming local government elections.
SABC News reporter Ofentse Setimo filed this report from Bapong, North West.
