Kremlin threats of mass strikes on Kyiv: Escalation or bluff? | Ukraine Brief
On Monday. Russia threatened “consistent, systematic strikes” targeting Kyiv, including Ukrainian command centers. Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement warning foreign citizens and diplomatic staff to swiftly depart the Ukrainian capital. On the same day, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated calls for the foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv during a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová, said that the diplomats representing the bloc’s member states will not evacuate from Kyiv.
Over the last day, Russian strikes against Ukraine killed six people and injured over a hundred more.
Additionally, exiled Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a meeting with President Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Tuesday. Among the topics discussed by the two leaders was the establishment of a Belarusian democratic forces representative office in Kyiv and coordinating efforts against the Lukashenko government.
To discuss this and more, Ukraine Brief host Ashim Kumar is joined by Volodymyr Yermolenko, Editor-in-Chief at UkraineWorld.org.
