Keir Starmer addressed ‘destabilising’ week as MPs call for resignation
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is vowing to fight on despite mounting calls for resignation.
Around 90 MPs are calling for him to resign as the party assesses hefty losses in local elections last week.
There are reports that Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband are considering launching leadership challenges.
Keir Starmer has addressed these comments.
“I take responsibility for these election results, and I take responsibility for delivering the change we promised. The past 48 hours have been destabilising for the government,” Mr Starmer said.
“The Labour Party has a process for challenging a leader, and that has not been triggered. The country expects us to get on with governing. That is what I am doing and what we must do as a Cabinet.”
