Junior Eurovision 2026 Poland, Warsaw’s hidden Mariensztat, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra

Poland is six days away from Junior Eurovision 2026 in Malta, and this week Pulse of Culture meets the teenage singer taking the country’s hopes to the international stage.

We begin in one of Warsaw’s best-kept secrets: Mariensztat, a district that looks like it has stood for centuries but was in fact built on the ruins of World War Two, and is now at the center of an ambitious new redevelopment plan. At the Zachęta National Gallery of Art, a major new exhibition brings together the sculptures of Alina Szapocznikow and Nairy Baghramian, two artists from different generations whose explorations of the human body, identity, and the boundaries between art and everyday objects reveal unexpected connections. Wiktor Sas will take to the stage at Junior Eurovision 2026 in Malta on October 24, performing Gravity, a song about determination, independence and refusing to let anything hold you back. We met him and his family in the days before the final. The BBC Symphony Orchestra has returned to Warsaw’s National Philharmonic after more than two decades for a special concert marking the opening of the Philharmonic’s jubilee year, conducted by Sakari Oramo with pianist Francesco Piemontesi. And in southern Poland, Redyk is under way: hundreds of sheep making their way through mountain streets, led by shepherds in traditional costumes, accompanied by music and bells, in a centuries-old tradition marking the return from summer pastures that runs until 7th November. Pulse of Culture is a weekly English-language magazine for anyone with a connection to Poland, including tourists, the diaspora, and the simply curious. New episodes are released every Sunday.
