Italy’s Capital Explodes! Furious Protesters Advance On PARLIAMENT As Police Vehicles Burn | Watch
Rome descended into chaos as riot police clashed with demonstrators during a nationwide general strike against rising living costs, low wages and increased military spending. Police deployed water cannon to disperse protesters as smoke filled the streets and crowds attempted to break through security cordons near the Italian parliament. Thousands marched through the Italian capital, while protests spread across around 50 cities. Students, workers, farmers and housing activists accused Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government of prioritising weapons and defence spending over healthcare, education and public services. Demonstrators also demanded action on soaring household expenses and opposed Italy’s involvement in arms sales and foreign wars. The strike extended to major ports, including Genoa, Livorno, Trieste, Gioia Tauro and Ravenna. The unrest comes days after Italy announced fresh security measures following violent protests in Milan, where 500 soldiers were deployed.
