‘ISIS bride’ charged upon return to Australia
One ISIS bride has been charged and two others are expected to face charges after the women and their children arrived in Sydney and Melbourne from a detention camp in Syria.
Janai Shafar was arrested by Australian Federal Police and New South Wales Police at Sydney International Airport around 6pm yesterday. She was charged with two serious offences at Mascot Police Station around 11pm.
The charges include being in a declared zone, specifically Iraq and Syria, and joining a terrorist organisation, the Islamic State. She faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if found guilty. #afp #police #crime #charges #sydney
