Is the US Military Really Funding China’s Robot War Dogs?
Unitree’s $1,600 Go2 model, launched in 2023, which helped the company gain global recognition within the quadruped robot market.
Researchers say the success of the robots can be attributed in some degree to the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, who has financed much of the movement.
In June, the Pentagon added Unitree to a list of Chinese military companies, calling it a “contributor to the Chinese defense industrial base.” This distinction limits the U.S. military’s future use of Unitree’s technology.
