Iran Ceasefire Extension Uncertain Without Agreement
President Trump said that the United States is “very close” to reaching a deal with Iran as a two-week ceasefire between the two countries approaches its expiration. Speaking at the White House, he said a potential agreement could lead to lower oil prices, reduced inflation, and help avoid a “nuclear holocaust,” adding that relations with Iran’s leadership were improving. However, Trump gave no clear commitment on extending the ceasefire, saying he was “not sure it needs to be extended,” while also noting that Iran appears more willing to negotiate now than in recent months.
