Indonesia Ferry In Flames: 5 Dead As Dozens Leap Into Sea, 41 Missing | ‘Between FIRE & SEA…’

At least five people have been killed and 41 remain missing after the passenger ferry KMP Mutiara Sentosa II caught fire in the Java Sea. The vessel was carrying 271 passengers and crew from Surabaya to Makassar when flames erupted approximately 26 kilometres north of Madura Island. Footage shows thick black smoke pouring from the ferry as nearby ships converged on the scene. Some passengers reportedly jumped overboard to escape, forcing rescue teams to search surrounding waters for survivors who may have drifted away. Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency says 225 people have been rescued, while multiple vessels are assisting with evacuation and search operations. Authorities have not established what caused the blaze. With dozens still unaccounted for, emergency crews are racing against time aboard the damaged ferry and across the open sea. Watch.
