Can Europe still count on NATO’s Article 5 – or is the Alliance’s most important promise facing its biggest political test?
Twenty-five years after NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time, the principle that an attack on one Ally is an attack on all faces renewed scrutiny. Russia’s war against Ukraine, growing hybrid threats across Europe and uncertainty over Washington’s political commitment are raising urgent questions about the credibility of NATO’s collective defense.
From the European Parliament in Brussels, Grzegorz Nawrocki asks whether NATO’s security guarantee would hold if Russia attacked Poland, Lithuania, or Estonia. Could political divisions delay a response? How should Europe prepare for sabotage, drone incursions, attacks on energy infrastructure, and Russia’s shadow fleet?
