ICC prosecutor says court won’t be ‘cowed’ by US sanctions
The International Criminal Court is under attack from the United States, hitting judges and officials with economic sanctions and effectively banning them from entering the US.
But ICC deputy prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan has told SBS Chief Political Correspondent Anna Henderson the court will not be “cowed” and its work continues to support victims across the globe.
She also explains the obligations on Australia should Israeli caretaker Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu travel here.
Australia is a member of the ICC and would be expected to “surrender” him to face a warrant over war crimes charges.
Netanyahu strongly denies the allegations and has accused the court of bias.
The deputy prosecutor is also closely involved in court processes against the Taliban in Afghanistan and expressed confidence in the Australian legal efforts to investigate war crimes.
