Iran has claimed a major military success in its escalating confrontation with the United States, saying the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone over Ahvaz using a newly deployed advanced air defense system. Iranian state media reported that the drone was intercepted after entering the area, though the claim has not been independently verified, and the United States has not officially commented. The reported drone shootdown comes after U.S. airstrikes targeted IRGC-linked infrastructure, which Washington said were carried out in response to attacks that killed American troops in Jordan. Iran has also claimed it launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes against the U.S. Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan, targeting aircraft shelters and operational facilities.
