‘Holding the ace card’: Australia’s nuclear submarine future hangs in the balance
News24 Defence Analyst Peter Jennings warns Australia’s AUKUS submarine ambitions remain uncertain.
“I think there are some concerns that the Americans are still holding the ace card in terms of whether they will let us have those Virginia class submarines,” Mr Jennings told News24 host Sharri Markson.
“They’re not lifting their industrial ability to lift them any faster.
“It’s great those American subs are going to be here from next year, but as to whether Australia ever sees nuclear submarines for our navy, that’s still an open question.”
