High-profile attempted murder trial begins

Members of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) and Gauteng Counter Intelligence Operations appear before the Gauteng South High Court in high-profile cases involving alleged ‘mastermind’ Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala,
The accused are scheduled to stand trial for the attempted murders of businessman Joe Sibanyoni and five others, media personality Tebogo Thobejane and three others, and musician DJ Vettys and two others.
Investigators have thus far recovered two firearms linked to the attempted murders of Joe Sibanyoni and DJ Vettys. Further forensic and ballistic evidence forms part of the State’s case.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Dimpane has expressed hope that the trial will result in lengthy prison sentences for those found guilty.
