Hidden autumn gems in Warsaw: five romantic, photogenic spots that most visitors miss, from the Citadel Park to the park behind the Parliament Building.
Pulse of Culture follows Natalia Komarow around Warsaw during the Polish Golden Autumn, when the city is at its most picturesque. he five locations are the park around the Warsaw Citadel; Czerniaków Harbor, home to rare houseboats; Filtrowa Street, lined with old villas and even older trees; tiny Profesorska Street, tucked away behind a wicket gate; and Marshal Edward Rydz-Śmigły Park, a lesser-known corner located right behind the Polish Parliament, featuring a popular staircase and outdoor art. Next, it’s time for szarlotka, the Polish apple pie, which many Poles would call one of the country’s greatest cultural achievements, at least when it comes to desserts. Karolina Jaźwińska finds out what makes it so special. We also visit Mothers of Kherson, a powerful new opera about the abduction of Ukrainian children, co-produced by the Polish National Opera and New York’s Metropolitan Opera. The Warsaw run at Teatr Wielki closes on October 27. Finally, Warsaw’s POLIN Museum marks International Music Day with a concert where young talents perform alongside renowned musicians from Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, and Austria.
