Govt ends housing aid for some 2022 flood victims
About 30 people, including women and children, who lost their houses in the devastating 2022 floods in KwaZulu-Natal, are now on the streets.
The group, who’ve been living in temporary accommodation since the floods, were evicted by the eThekwini municipality a week ago for not meeting the requirements for government housing intervention programmes.
4 000 houses were destroyed and more than 40 000 people were displaced in the floods which claimed more than four-hundrend lives.
These families are part of a larger group of more than 100 flood victims from Zwelisha, Umlazi and Isipingo, who were initially housed in community halls before they were housed in flats.
